Fairburn Class 4 -MT 2-6-4, - 4205122 viewsA quiet scene at Hellifield as Fairburn Class 4 -MT 2-6-4, - 42051 waits in the central up platform with a stopping train to Blackburn.
(Probably me as a kid, crouched down, hidden at the back of the lamp post)
The steep return line from the coaling plant can also be seen on the right hand side.

Fairburn 2-6-4T 42147 27 viewsTaken around 1962/3 from Hellifield South Signal Box - Fairburn 2-6-4T 42147 arrives from Blackburn on the local stopping train into the down platform as signalled.
It also shows the extensive goods yard at this side of the station which continued on both sides of this branch.
Another unknown Stanier tank looks like its positioned to reverse onto the back of this service and position it in the middle platform for the return journey leaving this engine - 42147 behind to water, turn and coal at the opposite
